PCB Orlando

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Business News on

PCB Orlando has just announced they are only doing the exhibition piece of the show this year.  They have cancelled all half and full day classes for Thursday.  We are a little bummed.  We have already arranged our travel, so the show must go on.  We will still be exhibiting on Wednesday.  If you are in the Orlando area and would like to stop by please visit us.   The exhibits are going to be free of charge.

We aren't complaining too bad because it gives us an extra day to play in DisneyWorld :) Hope to see you there.(The conference, not

Do They Bring it To the Couch?

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Odd News on

Well, it's official being a couch potato just got better.  Tivo is now allowing customers to order Domino's pizza from the television.  Tivo customers will be able to watch Domino ads and press the I want it button.  Customers will be able to choose crust type and toppings from the tv.  Pizzas are delivered in 30 minutes and you pay with cash.  Now if we could only get the delivery drivers to come directly to the

Good resource for Job Seekers

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Business News on

One of my favorite websites for job seeking is www.simplyhired.com.  If you haven't had a chance to check it out, then I suggest you do.  It's a great site that draws in jobs from all of the various jobs boards and brings them together in one place.  You can search by key words, location, or a combination of the two.  You can also filter for part time, full time, and contract positions.  I hope that no one has to use this site, but if you do, it's a great place to start.  Good luck in this volatile job

Deal, what deal?

Are you looking for good deals on Black Friday?  Well, this year it may be harder than you think.  Every year I look forward to tech deals.  Normally, Best Buy comes through, but not this year.(If the Black Friday sites are right)  I didn't see any good deals on monitors, gaming systems, TVs, or hard drives.  The prices that I saw weren't any better than the prices that are currently available.  Circuit City did have good prices on CDs and DVDs, but I didn't see much else.  Let's hope that some of the chain stores can do better.  I hope that Target and Walmart can come through with good bargains!

More Doom and Gloom

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Business News on

Looks like it's more bad news for the tech sector this week.  Sun Microsystems joined the list and man did they join the list!  The numbers between 5,000 and 6,000.  Many websites like this one are tracking the loss of jobs.  Every day it seems new companies are joining the list.  Some companies are taking other measures to reduce spending - like madatory vacations (Fairchild Semiconductor).

Meeting the Woz

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Untagged  on

Yesterday was the last day of the Mentor User2User conference and the keynote speaker was the Woz.  I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the conversation they had with him.  He must get so tired of answering the same questions all day, but he sure doesn't show it.  His enthusiasm for engineering is very obvious.  He's also a really nice guy.  He sat and autographed books and took pictures for 1 hour after his presentation.

I am not sure how Mentor landed him for a speaker.  It certainly was the highlight of the event and everyone love it!

Off to California...

Like I mentioned earlier we are headed off to California this week.  We will be attending the Mentor User2User conference.  I hope to see you

Freescale Layoffs

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Business News on

It looks like Freescale is the latest company to join the layoff bandwagon.  It looks like 10% is the magic number.  The global economy is affecting everyone.  The tech industry is never safe when the economy starts to sag.  I have to say it's hard to see companies resort to "downsizing" when there is a downturn.  I have been around the tech sector long enough to see more layoffs than the average American and each time it's never surprising.  Let's hope things get better sooner rather than

The End of Tesla Motors?

Posted by: tcoyle72 in Geeky Stuff on

We've all seen the pictures of the coolest electric vehicle in the world, the Telsa.  What a car!  Here's an electric vehicle that can go from zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds and is clocked at 125 mph.  To say this car is beautiful is an understatement.  If you don't believe me, then check out the Tesla photo gallery. Here are a few of the more common questions answered?  How long does it last on a charge?  An impressive 231 miles.  Where are the door handles?  The car has no door handles.  The doors are released electrically by a "discrete" touchpad.  How is Tesla related to Lotus?  Tesla's partner in development is Lotus.

With a price tag of over $100,000 you would think this company would have no problems, right?  Wrong, apparently Tesla is having a few cash flow problems and is trying to raise a mere $20 million to keep them "cash flow positive".  The kicker is the $20 million dollar amount was dropped down from $100

Living in New England this time of year we start thinking of ways to stay warm.  Yes, Maine is cold.  Yes, we get snow.  Yes, we like it. Yes, Maine is a long ways from practically everywhere.  That's part of the charm of living here.

One of the newest gadgets I have seen that makes sense to a very cold Mainer is the Headphone Beanie Hat.  It makes perfect sense!  The best thing the speakers are adjustable to fit your own "personal ear location".  The funny thing is they actually have a picture of a woman wearing one to prove they don't look too bad on the ladies.

$24.99 is a small price to pay for tunes and warm ears!  You can check it out at
